Kasargod : Rev Fr Marcel Saldanha, the parish priest of St Monica Church flagged off the 8th kannada Sahitya sammmelan at St Monica Educational institution, organized by Kannada Sahitya Parishad Kerala Border at Kumbala on April 13, Sunday.

Famous writer, national award winner, film director Nagathihalli Chandrashekar inaugurated this event.

Delivering the presidential address, Retired professor, writer, dramatist, Dr Na Damodara Shetty urged the people to promote Kannada along with other languages.

He also said that the people who keep migrating from one place to another must understand the local language, culture and live peacefully and co- operate and live cordially along with the locals.

Shetty also urged the litterateur to translate the good works in different languages, so that large number of people can access the work.
An exhibition of books and painting was also organized on the occasion.
