Mangaluru : MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, inspected a concrete road from Town hall to the central railway station constructed at Rs. 40 lakh in Mangaluru on Thursday.
Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel on Thursday asked the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to furnish the final deadline for completion of four-laning work on NH 66 between Talapady and Mulki in the district.
Presiding over a review meeting of road and railway projects here, Mr. Kateel said he would not believe in oral commitments by officials any more as they have been breached many times. “Please give a written undertaking on the deadlines as I’m answerable to people. If you fail to complete the works within the given deadline, I will recommend to the government to initiate action against you,” he told NHAI officials.
NHAI officials informed him that buildings on around 40 properties between Talapady and Pumpwell (Bhagawan Mahaveer Road) would be pulled down in two weeks, paving the way for construction of the remaining parts of service roads. They reiterated that the Thokkottu flyover would be completed by December and the Pumpwell flyover by March next.
Mr. Kateel said work on four-laning of NH 75 and NH 66, between B.C. Road and Surathkal, commenced in 2005 and compensation was given to land losers the same year. Even after completion of work in 2013, several buildings on acquired land are yet to be demolished and are obstructing smooth vehicular movement, he said.
