Mangalore : An exhibition of more than 600 colorful goodu deepas made by the participants of the 13th annual goodu deepa competition held by Namma Kudla, the popular TV channel, at Kudroli Gokarnanatha Temple, formed the highlight of the event on Nov 10, Saturday.
A number of people participated in this unique contest, held to keep alive age-old Diwali traditions and to give people a chance to showcase their talents, and made goodu deepas of colored paper, bamboo, and colored lights in the unique, modern, and traditional categories.
While gold medals were conferred on the first and second prize winners, ten consolation prizes ans 5 special prizes were awarded in each of the 3 categories.
H. S. Sairam, president and administrative officer of Shri Gokarnanatheshwara Kshetra; Raghavendra Kulur, the vice president; Dr. B. G. Suvarna, the trustee; and B. P. Karkera, the founder of Namma Kudla, were also present on the occasion.
On the same occasion, the Namma Tuluver Award was conferred on M. N. Rajendra Kumar, chairman of SCDCC Bank, the Namma Kudla 2011 Award was conferred on Bannanje Babu Amin, senior folk litterateur; and Bala Prathibe Award was conferred on Vibha Lakshmi Rai K.
