Mangalore : A total of 300 goodu deepas were created and arranged on the occasion of the eleventh annual goodu deepa competition organized by the television channel Namma Kudla in the premises of Kudroli Gokarnanatha Temple on Nov 4, Thursday. The purpose of the event was to keep alive the traditions associated with Diwali and to give Mangaloreans an opportunity to showcase their creative talents.
Many people participated in the contest and created attractive goodu deepas out of colored paper, bamboo, and colored lights in the traditional, modern, and unique categories. Some goodu deepas were especially attractive since they were made of birds’ nests, pulses, vegetables, and aquariums.
The winners of the first and the second prizes received a gold medal each; and everybody who participated received consolation prizes.
The competitions comprised 3 categories—traditional, modern, and unique. Ten consolation prizes were also given for each category.
