Mangalore : Shree Narayana Samskarika Vedi celebrated the 160th birth anniversary of Narayana Guru at Town Hall on September 8, Monday.
Speaking after inaugurating the event, Minister for Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake said that the government is making an effort to include the teachings and messages of social reformer Narayana Guru in the primary school syllabus from the next academic year.
Minister said that an appeal has been sent to the Chief Minister in this regard and waiting for the permission of Education board. As announced in the State budget, Narayana Guru Study Chair will be set up at Mangalore University.
Sorake said that Narayana Guru is a social reformer who called upon the mankind to eliminate the caste and religion from the society.
He has an achievement of establishing Kudroli Shri Gokarnanatheshwara Temple to build confidence among the members of backward community. There are 24 sects in Billawa community and hence there is need to come under a single platform.
Swamy Guruprasad Secretary of Shivagiri Mutt Pracharana Sabha Gurudhama blessed the occasion.

In another programme, organized by Sri Gokarnanatheshwara Education Institutions, Prof K Chinnappa Gowda former registrar of Mangalore University said that Narayana Guru has worked a lot to give recognition to the Billawa community in society.
Dr Rajeshwari Devi H R, District Surgeon and Superintendent of Wenlock Hospital said that District Surgeon and Superintendent of Wenlock Hospital Dr Rajeshwari Devi H R said that society can prosper when good health care to its people.
She also briefed on various new facilities like haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis centre at Wenlock Hospital. The facilities like Club Foot Care Centre and Regional Blood Transfusion Centre has been started in the started. Whereas, Drug Resistant Tuberculosis Centre and Early Intervention Centre for the treatment of new born babies will start functioning from October soon.
The organization distributed the prizes to the winners in Kannada, English and Tulu elocution competitions organised for higher primary, high school and college students as a part of the celebrations.
