New Delhi : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Yashwant Sinha on Monday endorsed Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the party’s prime ministerial candidate in the next general election.
“Wherever I go, the common people and party workers say they want Narendra Modi to be the prime minister candidate from BJP,” Yashwant Sinha told reporters.
“After considering all aspects, I too feel if BJP declares him as the prime minister candidate, it will make a huge difference to the party,” he said.
Speaking on the stance of its ally JD-U, he said, “JD-U is an independent party like the BJP, it is free to take its decisions. But it’s wrong to target one individual.”
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday visited BJP president Rajnath Singh in Delhi. Mr Modi described the two-hour meeting as “fruitful”.
“We discussed how BJP can serve the nation further. Yes, we also discussed 2014, we discussed it at great length,” said Mr Modi.
In an earlier tweet, before leaving for Delhi, he had said, “will meet Shri Rajnath Singhji & congratulate him on his taking over as BJP president.”
