Mangalore : Under 10 and Under 14 boys and girls national-level chess championship organized by Chess Association was inaugurated at Lobo’s Riverview on Oct 16 Sunday.
Derik Pinto, the president of the Karnataka State Chess Association started playing a game against Arjun Adappa, the chess prodigy of Mangalore in the inauguration.
Mahesh Ved, the vice president of the Chess Association of India, and Navin Shetty, the president of the Mangalore Basketball Club, participated as the chief guest.
Over 140 players are participating in this championship, which is actually the second edition. The Boys category will have 8 rounds and the Girls category will have 7 rounds in the format of the Swiss League.
CAI Joint Secretary Prasanna Rao presided over the event. Ian Lobo of Lobo’s Riverside and Chandrashekar Bhandary were present.
