Udupi : Shankerpura in Udupi is famous for the locally grown jasmine flowers known as Shankerpura Mallige. The jasmines of Shankerpura have also won the geographical induction certificate two years ago.

As of now the Union Government has accepted the recommendation of the Department of Horticulture to extend national  identity to Shankerpura jasmine.

According to one estimate,  over 25000 farmers from DK are growing jasmine and the Shankerpura jasmine  are  sold at various places not only in the district but across the state.

President of Jasmine Cultivators Association, Ramakrishna Sharma Bantakal, while saying he was happy with the recognition.

However, at present, jasmine growers are in problem with declining prices at a time when jasmine flowers are grown in abundance.
