Mangalore : The National Road Safety Week jointly organized by the district administration, police department, and the Road Transport Officer (RTO) was held at Carmel High School on Jan 25, Tuesday.
Speaking after inaugurating the event, Prof. Dr. B. M. Hegde, the former vice chancellor of MAHE, lamented over the number of deaths caused by accidents in this district. He also said that, the death caused by accident can be prevented by taking simple precautions.
The death is unavoidable and all those born are to die, but it can be avoid by following a few simple traffic rules and taking a few precautions.
Further he also urged the youth to follow the law and traffic rules religiously, he said that road deaths can be prevented only if people follow traffic laws.
SP Dr. A. Subrahmanyeshwar Rao said that imposing of traffic laws will be ineffective if citizens lack the culture to follow them. He said that NH48 under the limits of the DK district is said to be the highest accident prone spots and has seen 98 deaths in the previous year.
City police commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, presided over the event. Azeez Parthipady, secretary of City Bus Owners’ Association, DCP Muthuraya, and RTO Seva Nayak were present.
