Mangalore : The members of National Environment Care Foundation staged a protest in front of the DC’s office on September 10, Wednesday demanding the state government to implement Gadgil report to preserve the natural resources in the Western Ghats.
Addressing the protestors, H Shashidhar Shetty said that the as soon as the tiger is spotted in the city it becomes news, but when people go to forest to cut down the trees it goes unnoticed. No people including local representative to Ministers fail to show any concern towards the animals and hey are losing their shelter due to deforestation.
He also said that the government must implement Gadgil report since it was environment friendly. He also urged the government to release funds to safeguard animals, flora and fauna and also form a committee to monitor its functioning.
He also said that the tribal community who are evicted from the forest must be given alternative place and also implement tiger project.
The government must strictly follow the direction of the Supreme Court and restrict heavy vehicles passing in the Bandipura and Nagarahole forests. The authorities must not allow trekking and mining in the region, he added.
Later, the members submitted a memorandum to the DC.
