Moodbidri: CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury while advocating a major people’s movement against BJP’s ‘divisive politics’ averred that such a movement from working class and farmers alone can stop the saffron party’s relentless march across India.
BJP led NDA government is coming up with catchy slogans to divert people attention from pressing issues such as agrarian crisis faced by farmers as well as mounting problem of unemployment.
Addressing a public rally as part of 22nd state conference of CPM here on Tuesday, Yechury said string of electoral victories cobbled by PM Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah across states had made the government oblivious to these pressing issues.
“Modi and Shah are thinking their Ashwamedha horse will remain unchallenged. Like Lava and Kusha in Ramayana stopped Rama’s horse, peasants and working class will be twins to stop BJPs juggernaut,” he said.
Urging Karnataka to take the lead in forming a mighty people’s movement against divisive politics of BJP on communal lines, Yechury said this movement is necessary for creating a better India and better Karnataka.
The CPI (M) will strongly back such people’s movement, Yechury said, adding this is imperative in that BJP state leadership is making a strong pitch to wrest the state from the ruling Congress in the assembly elections that are round the corner.
Training guns on the central government, Yechury said it has aggressively pushed forward neo-liberal policies initiated by its predecessor – the Congress-led UPA Government. Averring that such a push gas helped a few wealthy people amass wealth, Yechury said while assets worth about 49% of Gross Domestic Product was found with one percent wealthy people during UPA rule, the assets with the wealthy people has grown to 60% among the same per cent of the rich.
Yechury also tore in to hurry exhibited by the BJP in introducing bill banning instant triple talaq in lower house of the parliament. The government that is in a hurry to jail men for divorcing their wives with this utterance has not backed their welfare, he said.
The centre is not ready to have discussion on this bill, he said and accused BJP of reducing every incident into one of communal polarization and a case of worst vote bank politics by any central government.
