Mangaluru : District In-charge Minister B Ramanath Rai said, a statue of Jawaharlal Nehru will be built at Nehru Maidan in Mangaluru.

The minister paid a visit to the Nehru Maidan on Tuesday and reveiwed requirements

towards developing the ground. Speaking to reporters, he said there are plans to build a statue of Nehru to mark 125th birth anniversary of the first prime minister of India.

The minister also said that there was a need to fence the ground and directed the PWD Superintending Engineer Kantaraj to submit a preliminary report in that regard. Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said no court had granted stay on constructing DC office complex in Padil.

“The case filed by an NGO against the construction will have a second sitting in the court and the proposed land is a deemed forest and the construction of DC office will not violate the Forest Act,” the DC added.
