As the region has been facing drinking water scarcity, awareness is being created among people on saving water. Mescom will be asked to carry out a review on the illegal use of pumpsets drawing water from the river for irrigation purpose.
ZP Member Koragappa Naik said that efforts will be made to construct a vented dam across Mrutyunjaja, a tributary of River Netravathi, at Mundaje. Taluk panchayat Member Dhanalakshmi Janardhan said that measures will be taken to obtain grants from tourism department to carry out disilting in the river.
During summer vacation, the number of devotees in Dharmasthala crosses 15,000 per day. The devotees bathe in the river, before going to the temple. Due to high temperature and less rains, the flow of water in the river has stopped, posing a threat to the lives of aquatic creatures.
NSS volunteers from SDM Education Institutions have been creating awareness on maintaining cleanliness in bathing points and limited use of water. Informative placards have been erected by the temple in the region.
