Mangalore: Deputy Commissioner Dr NS Channappa Gowa on July 25, Wednesday, relaunched the ‘new avatar Sportstar, the only surviving sports weekly magazine in the country. The magazine is published by Kasturi and Sons Ltd., which also brings out The Hindu.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said the Sportstar could survive the test of times thanks to its quality and the substance. He also recalled how he loved reading Sportstar in his younger days but admitted that his busy schedule as a DC made  it difficult for him to follow sports.

Four outstanding sportspersons namely Anand Shetty, athlete who has won gold and silver medals at   South Asian Federation (SAF) games, Viani Antonio D’cunha,   an outstanding chess player who has won the 2010 Ekalavya Award, Royston Pinto, who has won skating medals in Special Olympics and Roshan Ferrao, Mr. Asia Pacific of 2010 and a bodybuilder of international repute, were felicitated on the occasion.
