Udupi : The largest mosque in the district, the Jamia Masjid in Udupi will be inaugurated on August 10. A magnificent three storied building stands in place of the old mosque building which is nearly two centuries old.
The new building with an area of 18000 square feet can accommodate 3000 people at a time and has separate prayer hall which can accommodate 400 women. There is a separate access to the women’s prayer hall.
The mosque is also equipped with two separate rooms Mayyut Gusul Khana and Kafan Khana, the first one to bathe the body and the other one to dress the body and make it ready for burial.
Hidayatulla Abbas of Uchila will inaugurate, while Moulana Mohiyuddin Jeelani, khateeb of Jamia Masjid will lead the prayer and deliver the Friday sermon. Abdul Riyaz Khan, chairman, Karnataka Wakf Board, Bangalore, K S Mohammed Masood, former MLA, Mangalore, Imran Hidayatulla, CEO, Hidayath Group of Industries, Dubai will be the chief guests. An Iftar get-together will be held the same evening.
Sajjad Associates of Bangalore are the architects, and construction has been carried out by Udupi-based S N Construction.
