Mangaluru: The construction of the new Gurpur bridge on the Phalguni river in NH 169 is finally completed and ready for inauguration.
The bridge was construted at initial cost Rs 39.4 crore. The bridge missed its deadline of February 2020 due to technical issues and delay in the acquisition of land for construction.
The new bridge is constructed adjacent to the old bridge which was built in the early 1920s and was declared unsafe for vehicular traffic.
The bridge connects Mangaluru to Karkala via Moodabidri. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel was laid the foundation stone for the project in 2019
