Mangalore: An orange seller, that too an illiterate, has been able to achieve something, which many in the society have not been able to achieve, despite sufficient funds at their disposal. But this orange seller, who needs no introduction, Harekala Hajabba who could get a school for his village Harekala years ago, thanks to his singular and selfless efforts, has now been successful in having a High school in his home village.
And it indeed was a dream come true for him when the High School constructed with the help of donors, was inaugurated by Mangalore MP Nalin Kumar Kateel on June 13, Wednesday.
The MP in his address, said he would be delighted to contribute Rs 5 lakhs for the school from his MP’s Fund. Describing Hajabba as a saint, Nalin said the society has to learn a lot from Hajabba.
Hajabba who also spoke said the school today stands as a reality due to the contributions of many and added his only aim was to see children in his village and its vicinity educated and that no one should be deprived of education for want of a good school. He also revealed his desire to have a PU College here.
MLA ,, who was a chief guest, assured to develop the approach road to the school from his local area development fund.
Rajalakshmi K, Mangalore Rural Block Education Officer, Prasad Rai Kallimaru, President of Lions Club, Konaje, K Rohini, District Information officer, Rashida, Harekala gram panchayat President, DDPI Moses Jayashekhar and others were present on the occasion.
Though a high school was sanctioned for Harekala School in 2007-2008 itself, it did not have an independent building until now. The school has classes from VII to X.
