Bangalore: Justice Shivaraj Patil, a former judge of the Supreme Court, was appointed as the new Karnataka Lokayukta, to succeed Justice N. Santhosh Hegde who demits office on August 2 only. The appointment has been made on CM Yeddyurappa’s recommendations to the state Governor to hold office for 3 years.
Patil was born in Raichur district in 1940 and joined bar in Gulberga in 1962. He practiced law till 1979. He taught Law in a college there from 1967 to 1975. He became principal from May 1975 to June 1978.
He shifted to Bangalore in 1979 to practice exclusively in the High Court. He was a counsel to BDA and Central Silk Board, also an advocate for Bangalore and Gulberga Universities.
He was elevated as a Judge in 1990 KHC. He was shifted to Madras and then moved to Rajasthan as in 1999. He became a Judge in Supreme Court in 2000 and retired in 2005. Justice Hegde has welcomed Justice Patil’s appointment to succeed him.
