Mangalore : A. P. Gowrishankar, the lawyer,inaugurated the new office of the Mulageni Vokkalu Rakshana Vedike (MVRV) establishedto protect the interest of Mulgeni tenants at Don Bosco Hall premises on June17, Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, Gowrishankar provided informationregarding the Mulgeni Tenants’ Confirmation Rights and said that the Mulgenitenants in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have succeeded in implementingthe proper laws for their protection. Mulgeni tenancy is defined in theTransfer of Property Act, he added.
Speaking on the vedike’s activities, Maxim D’Silva,president of MVRV, urged all Mulgeni tenants to join the vedike in largenumbers.
Briefing about the bill, he said that e tenants areconferred ownership right on lands
held by virtue of Mulageni. Here the tenants have to pay an amount equal to 500times the annual rent to the landlords as the compensation.
Gowrishankar also said that the bill do not clash with provisionslike Transfer of Property Act or the Registration Act.
The gathering observed silence in honor of B. V. Kakkilaya,former MP and MLA and freedom fighter.
