Mangalore: The Mangalore University (MU) at Konaje made an announcement on Thursday at Mangala Gangotri, that Chairmen of various departments, Board of studies, and Board of Examinations would have fixed tenures to function as such. The system is brought in, to break away with earlier traditions, said Vice-chancellor Prof TCS Murthy.
He added that the new system comes into force from January 1, 2012.
The Department Chairman’s term is fixed at 2 years. The chairman of Board of Examinations will have tenure of 4 to 3 years. But the Board of studies chief will be appointed for 3 years. There is a provision for Professors and associate Professors with a minimum of 5 years of experience to chair the Board of studies (BOS). Similar experience is required to head Board of Exams, by a Professor, an associate professor, or an Assistant Professor, the V-C informed. The rotation system will bring in fresh faces presently, he stated.
The examination process is made online. By next academic year, admission processes will go online in all colleges. 5 Schools will be set up on the Campus.
A building for Kannada study Centre will be established at a cost of Rs.3 Crores. All 12 chairs relating to Kannada will function from the new building. A new examination ‘Manual’ will be worked out soon.
The examination results of last Semester will be published on MU website by Dec 30, 011 the V-C told a gathering.
