Mangaluru : South MLA Vedavyas Kamath inaugurated the newly constructed Alake market on Tuesday, October 13.
The building, constructed at a cost of Rs 1.40 crore and measuring 536.19 square meter has been constructed with a special grant of Rs 50 lakh from Chief Minister’s Nagarothana Scheme, an equal amount from the Enterprises grant of MCC , Rs 30 lakh from Mangaluru South MLA’s Special Grant and Rs 10.40 grant from the MCC.
Speaking on the occasion Kamath assured of taking measures to upgrade the Alake market for the public and traders’ use.
Mayor Diwakar Pandeshwar hailed MLA Kamath for taking the initiative to complete the work of Alake market which was pending for several years.
He also informed that the Urwa market would soon be inaugurated and that measures are being taken to clear the roadblocks pertaining to Kankanady and Kadri Markets.
The market has six outlets for selling vegetables, four general stalls, four fruit stalls, two mutton stalls and one stall each for beef and pork sale. Apart from this there are two stalls for dry fish sale, 12 stalls for fresh fish and four flower stalls.
Mayor Diwaker Pandeshwar, Deputy Mayor Vedavathi, Standing Committee Presidents Kiran Kumar, Poornima, Corporators Sudhir Shetty Kannur, Shakila Kava, Jayashree J Kudva, District BJP Chief Sudarshan and others were present.
