Mangaluru: Traffic on National Highway 66 was blocked for more than half an hour when the citizens staged a protest after a lorry fell on a youth, seriously injuring him, at Thokkottu Junction, on the outskirts of Mangaluru, on Tuesday.
According to sources, the traffic police had signalled the driver to stop the lorry.
When the lorry driver moved the vehicle aside to stop as per the instructions of the traffic police, the wheels of the lorry moved on a concrete slab of the drain. The concrete slabs broke and the lorry tilted to one side and fell on the youth who who was passing by.
Angered by the incident, the citizens blocked the highway accusing the traffic police responsible for the incident.
ACP Traffic who arrived the spot held talks with the citizens and later facilitated the movement of vehicles.
The lorry was laden with firewood was bound to Kerala.
