Kundapur : The repair works of the Arate bridge near Hemmady on NH 66, one of the prominent projects of the taluk was taken up on February 7, Thursday after Raitha Sangha warned of protest against the long pending work.
It may be recalled here that Deepak Kumar Shetty, District President of the Raitha Sangha had said there would be protests if the works did not commence by Thursday. On Thursday, Shetty even had been to the NH office and warned of protest again. Taking the issue seriously after attempts to pacify Shetty that the works would be taken up very soon failed, the NH officials said a Hitachi machinery and initiated the works.
