Mangaluru: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) President justice H L Dattu visited Mangaluru central jail, on Wednesday.
He visited the jail cells as well as women cell in the jail and later held discussion with the jail officials in jail Superintendant’s office.
“Under trial accused should be produced before court on the due date at any cost, if it is not possible then at least through the video conference the accused should be produced before the court. Jail officials should inform the unattended jail inmates about next date of hearing,” he said.
“Jail inmates should be provided basic facilities. Yoga and other exercises should be conducted to keep the jail inmates away from depression and their health should be checked regularly,” he added.
After the discussion he inspected the files of two murders which took place in jail recently.
Commissioner Chandra Sekhar, DC Jagadeesh, MCC Commissioner Nazeer and others were present.
