Moodbidri : A protest meet was convened at Bangerapadavu in Niddodi on May 26, Sunday to oppose the proposed 4000 mw ultra mega thermal power project in the village. The protest meet was held under the aegis of the Matrabhoomi Samrakshana Samithi.Several villagers took part in the protest.
Speaking on the occasion, Premanand Kalmady, environmentalist, urged the people of Niddodi to fight the project tooth and nail. Do not bow to any pressure and sell your land, he urged the villagers. He stated that there need to be a serious discussion on the pros and cons of the project and added the government had failed to provide sufficient information to the villagers regarding the proposed project.
Among the several villagers who took part in the protest included Kiran Manjanbailu, President of Matrabhoomi Samrakshana Samithi, Rohitaksha, State Vice President of the Sangha, Yadava Shetty, District Secretary and others.
