Mangalore: A padayatra against Made Snana at Kukke Subrahmanya Temple and Pankthi Bedha at Udupi Krishna Mutt, organised from Mangalore to Udupi, by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was inaugurated in front of the DC office in Mangalore on December 24, Monday by Sri Veerabhadra Channamalla Swamiji of Nidumamidi Mahamsamsthana Mutt, Bangalore.
In his address, the seer said the three day journey by foot aimed at creating an awareness regarding such superstitious rituals. There is no justification to such acts which are a symbol of slavery, he said. Countering claims that the Made Snana ritual would help one get rid of skin ailments, the seer said it in away can also cause skin diseases.
The Nidumamidi seer also opposed the alternative called Ede Snana suggested by the Pejawar seer.
The Padayatra began with Madhava, District CPM Secretary, handing over flag to Vasanth Acharya who is in-charge of the Padayatra, Several CPI(M) leaders including Muneer Katipalla and Sunil Kumar Bajal were present.
