Mangalore: The All India Workers’ Sangha of Shirthady in the port city today, conducted a Dharni Satyagraha (movement of non-cooperation) in protest against disorderly management and negligence in duties by the doctors and staff at the district Wenlock and Lady Goschen Hospital (for lady patients), and also against privatization process in the name of Health Protection by Shield Committee, in front of Govt. Wenlock Hospital where work was disrupted by the agitated staff members today. Ten demands were placed before the medical; authorities to redress grievances.
Private sector patients from DK Dt and Kerala, or other neighbouring districts, especially poor daily wage workers affected by diseases, are put to difficulties and sheer maltreatment at the two district hospitals, by officials demanding their BPL and APL cards from various daily wage categories of workers, instead of curing their diseases.
A night long vigil movement (Dharni) has been proposed tonight (Feb15) at the Govt. Wenlock Hospital to press the demands of helpless patients, General Secretary, Shitady Sudatta Jain informed Pressmen at the venue.
