Mangalore: Department of Psychiatry of Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital in association with Link Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts, Mangalore observed the ‘international Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’ at Rosario Church Hall on June 26, Tuesday.
Speaking after the inaugurating the event, City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said that there are some people who will fall into the trap and some people who do not know to come out of the trap of drug addiction, hence it is necessary to educate the youngsters on this ill effect.
He said that taking drugs was not a solution for personal problems. He asked students to be committed towards not using drugs and to fight drug abuse.
Participating as the chief speaker Dr. Satheesh Rao, HOD of Psychiatry in Kshema Hospital said that according to some studies indicate that drug abuse is on increase in the city and many young people, especially at the age group of 15-20 are being victimized by it.
He also said that sometimes people bring the drug addicts to the rehabilitation centre at the dying stage and this will be difficult to bring them back to the position. Hence they must bring them for treatment at the early stage, so that it will be controlled with the consultation.
He said drug usage would disappear from society only when the young generation came together to fight it. Do not take drug out of curiosity. Once you get into the habit you cannot kick it, he said.
Asha Nayak, president of Child Welfare Committee is another main speaker at the event. N Vinaya Hegde, chancellor at Nitte University presided over the event.
