Mangalore: NMAM Institute of Technology has signed a MoU with Penn State Harrisburg, USA for offering a 2+ 2 engineering programme. This is a twinning programme to offer a Bachelor Degree in Engineering in which the students admitted, will complete the first two years of their study at Nitte and the next two years at the Penn State, said Nitte University Chancellor N Vinaya Hegde.
Addressing the media persons at the press meet held at Hotel Gateway on June 14, Tuesday, he said that this agreement is a result of the recognition by Penn State, of more than 25 years of engineering education programmes offered by Nitte with students strength of more than 8000 in the Nitte and Bangalore Campuses.
In addition to the twinning preogramme he said that, the agreement also provides for the faculty exchange, collaborative research and curriculum enrichment and delivery that would benefit the students of the two autonomous engineering programmes currently run by Nitte.
He also said that, the Penn State Harrisburg is a part of Pennsylvania State University established in 1855 and is located on a state-of-the-art campus in Pennsylvania, USA. The University, within 24 campus locations, is one of the largest and most widely recognized institutions in the United States having student strength of more than 90,000. Oenn State Harrisburg offers two associate, 32 baccalaureate, 24 masters and three doctoral programmes, as well as certificate programmes. The new twinning programme will have the benefit of a globally recognized and contemporary Engineering education with the coming together of two known names in higher education space.
The Articulation Agreement between Nitte and Penn State provides for a common curriculum, education delivery, evaluation and transfer of credits to ensure that the participants are assured of the benefits of pursuing part of the Programme in India adhering to global benchmarks in engineering education. The specializations offered are Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
Students who successfully complete the programme will get a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from The Pennsylvania State University. The programme is being offered under the new Twinning Programme with Foreign Universities Schemes of AICTE. The Programme would Commence in August 2011.
He also informed that this 2+2 programme is the first of its kind that Penn State has signed with any foreign University. The agreement assures that the same degree will be given to the Indian student like any other student studying all the four years at Penn State and thus as a student of Penn State University is eligible to pursue higher studies in any American University.
