Bangalore: Self-proclaimed Godman Nityananda has been granted bail by the Ramnagar Court on June 14, Thursday, just a day after he was arrested following his surrender before the Court on June 13.
It may be recalled here that Nityananda was at large ever since the scuffle between his followers and media men at his Bidadi Dhyana Peetha last week. Nityananda was given bail on a surety of Rs 50,000 which was paid by a resident of Basavanagudi.
Meanwhile, Nityananda has filed a writ in the High Court against Chief Minister, Home Minister, police authorities as well as Suvarna New Channel, seeking damages of Rs 10 crore.
It may be recalled here that Nityananda was once arrested in 2010 after a rape case was filed against him when a private TV channel aired video footages of him in compromising position reportedly with an actress.
Nityananda who was in hiding even then for about a month was arrested from a place called Solan in Himachal Pradesh.
He had remained in jail for almost seven weeks following this.
