Mangalore : New Mangalore Port chairman P C Parida said that port will establish a development park spread over 6,500 sq m, which will be completed by 2016.
Speaking to the members of the Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on August 6, Wednesday he said that the memorandum submitted to him, highlighted the problems pertaining to the port.
He also said that the project will be set up at the estimated cost of Rs 22 crore, which will include banks, restaurants, convention center, and shopping complexes. The renovation will give add the beauty to the old existing port. The tender for the project will be invited in the month of November.
Parida also urged the KCCI to render their support to the development of the port. To increase trade, a railway line will be laid to Tannirbavi yard from the railway marshalling yard.
He also said that the railway lines which will be laid will include the additional capacity of 10 million tonnes for the port, providing railway facility to oil dock berth no 19, KIOCL area.
Parida said that, although port do not have the capacity o carry the harbor work at Kulai, will further carry 20 percent of the Rs 65 crore spent on the construction of the fisheries harbor.
The memorandum submitted by the KCCI include demands such as implementation of National Tribunal Award, reduction of labour gang strength, revision of datum, maintenance and repairs of transit shed and overflow sheds, declaring New Mangalore Port as designated port and others.
