Mangaluru: Customers are terrified with the news that there is a severe cash shortage at ATM’s in prominent cities throughout Karnataka.

In relation to this news, ‘Udayavani’ conducted a reality check at ATM’s in Mangaluru and Udupi and has found that there was no shortage in cash at any of the ATM’s. Also, the lead band officials and senior officials of multiple banks were approached and they confirmed that the people need not fear about any shortage.

The lead bank has not yet received any complaint in Dakshina Kannada district regarding shortage of cash in ATM’s, informed lead bank and Syndicate bank manager Raghav Yajamanya.

A message from SBI Corporate Office ordered that no ATM should face cash shortage and even though Wednesday was a holiday, all the ATM’s must still be equipped with cash. As per the message, cash was delivered to all the ATM’s on Wednesday morning, informed sources from SBI Mangaluru office.

Corporation Bank owns the highest number of ATM’s in Mangaluru and a deficiency in the availability of cash was not observed at any of its ATM’s. All the ATM’s were loaded with cash on Wednesday morning. A few banks spread around north India did indeed face a shortage in cash supply. But, this problem is not there in Mangaluru, affirmed Corp. Bank IT Division DGM Shridhar.

In the case of continuous holidays, the additionally required cash for these days is supplied before hand to the agencies that are responsible for loading cash into ATM’s, informed Corporation Bank officials.

Cash has been loaded into Vijaya Bank ATM’s. There is no shortage, confirmed an officer from the bank’s regional office.

Karnataka Bank Managing Director, M.S. Mahabaleshwara observed that” normally, on the national level, 10-20% of the ATM’s will face problems. One of the reasons for it happen is due to the imbalance of distribution in cash. The ATM’s of a few states never see a shortage in cash. If cash distribution is done effectively, this problem will not occur,” he said.
