Mangaluru: At least 55 boards were seized by police and notices were issued to the building owners. The traffic police on October 17, Wednesday, initiated a drive against “No parking boards” placed in front of commercial complexes and apartments in Mangaluru.
Residents of Mangaluru city are facing acute parking problems in the central areas of the city, because building owners put up ‘no parking’ boards in front of shops, commercial complexes and apartments.
The City Police Commissioner received a series of complaints in this regard during the weekly phone in programmes. On the direction of City Police Commissioner, the police initiated a drive to remove the boards.
Under the guidance of DCP Uma Prashanth, police personnel led by ACP Manjunath Shetty carried out the drive at Hampankatte, Clock Tower, Navabharath Circle, Bejai, Falnir and at Mallikatte. At a few places, the apartment owners had placed a “no parking board” on the public road.
Even a few public sector banks too, had placed such boards in front of the banks. All the boards were seized by the police. DCP (Crime and Traffic) Uma Prashanth said “Notices were served to the building owners. The owners were asked not to place the board again and warned of strict action if they repeat the illegal action.
