Mangaluru : The tourism department came under fire at the district tourism committee review meeting on Tuesday as neither had the department any specific proposals to encourage tourism in the district, nor had it got feedback from members of the committee before the meeting.
When the official concerned sought to know details of roads that could be improved to help tourism activities from the members, MLC Ivan D’Souza posed a counter question: what proposals the department had. The answer was in the negative. He rebutted the official saying that the department had neither prepared a plan nor consulted people’s representatives for suggestions.
Similarly, in case of the department’s initiative of corporate adoption of places of tourist interest, Mr. D’Souza asked whether it had identified any specific place or prepared any proposal. The answer to this too was in the negative.
The committee also did not take any decision on the department’s suggestion to consider Rashid Bolar’s proposal to operate cruise ships from New Mangalore Port Trust to Lakshadweep, as it did not have any details.
