New Delhi : Though there has been a national outrage against the recent steep hike in petrol prices, the Union Government has not yet given any assurance of roll back on petrol prices.
Speaking to pressmen here on May 25, Friday, Union Petroleum Minister Jaipal Reddy clarified that there would be no roll back for the time being. He also clarified that the hike has been affected following the demand of the oil companies.
In the meantime, several Congress leaders met on May 25, Friday and requested the government to drop the hike in petrol price, after facing widespread criticism for the hike.
Even Congress President Sonia Gandhi held talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, senior ministers and higher leaders for about two hours following the developments after the announcement of petrol price hike.
Even AICC Spokesperson Manish Tiwari has hinted at the possibility of revising petrol prices in the days to come.
