Mangaluru: Mayor Kavitha Sanil’s major achievement seems to be that the city did not face a water crisis during her term.
Interacting with reporters prior to demitting office at the end of her one-year tenure, the mayor said the city saw development works to the tune of Rs 180 crore during her stint.
“I assured that the city will not face a water crisis, and that the water level will be raised to 6 metres at the Thumbe dam, which has been met,” she said. She said the issue faced by artistes with regards to high rent charged for Town Hall, too, was amicably addressed in consultation with all concerned.
“The introduction of five e-toilets has been the highlight of the year gone by,” she said, adding that the civic body has received offers from companies to set up more such facilities, if the MCC makes land available. “We want to live up to our reputation of being a clean and green city,” she said.
“Setting up a startup centre at the MCC commercial complex at Mallikatte, construction of footpaths and drains using premium FAR funds and rehabilitation of street vendors in separate street vending zones has been accomplished during the last one year,” she said.
“Introduction of Indira Canteens for which MCC contributed Rs 2.25 crore, renovation of the flag post and entrance gate at Nehru Maidan, are some of the achievements of the MCC during my tenure,” Kavitha added.
