Madikeri : At the Bayalukuppe (Kodagu) settlement, devout Tibetan refugees and their generations of 50 years, celebrated the 75th birthday of their spiritual-cum-temporal leader, Dalai Lama on Tuesday, July 6 in a cheerful and exalted faith in him, at a time when china was nominating a 4 – year child in Hannan province as the new Delhi Lama by lots taken in Lhasa. Over 20,000 Tibetan believers participated in the revelry, according to settlement officer, P. Tsering. The Bylakuppe settlement is the first Tibetan settlement in India.
Prayers, Tibetan flag hosting, religious and cultural activities marked the happy occasion of unity and brother hood. The monks led the civilians in offering scarves to the portrait of Dalai Lama who is in Punjab (Dharamshala). Tree were planted along the Palace of the Guru.
DC Harish Gupta was chief guest on the occasion.
A Tibetan cultural programme was presented in the city by Young Tibetans.
