Mangalore: Bantwal police have arrested three persons involved in thefts in various shops and residences, and have seized jewellery worth Rs 6.12 lakh from them. The arrested are Indra (44) of Hassan district, Babruvahana alias Ashok of Hagarle and Gopi (19). Informing this to reporters here SP Abhishekh Goel said the three were found lurking suspiciously in Manihalla of Navoor village and were subsequently arrested.
The trio were wanted in several cases of burglary in Bantwal, Ujire, Uppinangady, Kepu, Sajipanadu, Polali and other places and gold jewellery weighing 200 grams and silver weighing 195 grams were seized from them.
It has been reported that the trio were engaged in rag picking and were resorting to theft after women of their group on the pretext of rag picking gathered information about residences and inmates.
It is suspected that they were wanted in theft cases in other districts too. They mostly preferred to burgle isolated houses or houses which were found locked and were leading nomadic life by pitching tents at Pumpwell, Belthangady, Uppinangady and other places.
