Mangalore : Residents of Kadri Shivabagh in Mangalore who were tired of the apathy of the local elected representative as well as the administration towards their civic problems, on November 12, Monday chose to stage a novel protest. They begged alms to draw the attention of the authorities towards the pathetic state of the road, side drains and bus shelter in the area.
MG Hegde, State JD(S) General Secretary, who addressed the protestors, accused the local corporator Gretta Rebello was making no effort in improving the conditions in her ward despite several appeals.
A local resident, Gerald who dressed as a beggar went around and sought alms. A total of Rs 2350 collected would be used to raise a signboard to the road leading to the ESI Hospital, the organizers of the protest said.
