Ghaziabad : Nupur Talwar, an accused in the murder of her daughter Aarushi Talwar in 2008, has been remanded to 14-day judicial custody after a special CBI court rejected her plea for interim bail on Monday.
Nupur has been sent to the Dasna Jail in Ghaziabad, where she will have to spend Monday night in cell no. 13, before the court takes up her plea for regular bail on Tuesday.
Earlier on Monday, Nupur was taken into custody, shortly after surrendering before a special court hearing the case. She applied for bail immediately after her arrest, but the plea was turned down after the CBI lodged a strong appeal against it.
The CBI argued that being a woman was not a ground for bail. CBI lawyer R K Saini also said that Nupur had been avoiding orders to appear in court and that it was a heinous case of double murder. Nupur is also accused of killing the family’s domestic help, Hemraj.
Nupur’s 14-year-old daughter Aarushi was found dead inside their Noida residence in May 2008 with her throat slit. The body of the Talwars’ domestic servant Hemraj, initially a suspect in the case, was recovered from the terrace a day later.
The Talwar couple is accused in the case. Rajesh Talwar is out on bail.
