Mangalore: The Okuli or concluding festival of Sri Venkatramana Temple Car Festival took place on last day of this month (Jan.31) on Tuesday morning when hundreds of temple volunteers went out for colored waters bath on streets, with God veera Venkatesha on a palanquin, carried by hefty young men.
It marks the final day event of a 6-day Car Festival at which lakhs of GSB community members were fed by the temple, and the entire Car Street area become a heaven of joy and carefree roaming place, while devotees thronged at the huge Car or in temple premises to seek divine blessings.
Okuli relaxes all tensions with a bath in colored cool waters stored up in huge vessels and doled out in mugs to the children, youths and a few elderly persons, all of when have colored faces in the bargain.
The small stalls put up temporarily on Bhavanthi Street on either sides sold fancy items for women and children, while men had tender coconuts and milk products at shops.
The entire Car Street looked gaily decorated with names of god and pictures of Guru-Shishya Swamiji, also of Brahma Ratha in all its splendour in printed pictures hung on poles from one end to the other. On the whole, it was an endearing occasion to walk around and watch ever.
