Mangalore : Onam, the harvest festival was celebrated with gaiety all over Kerala on August 29, Wednesday. Keralites based in Mangalore too celebrated the festival with great fervor in the city. Various programmes too were organized in Mangalore.
In Kerala, traditional floral carpets were laid in houses to welcome Mahabali, the demon king. There is a belief that Mahabali visits his subjects on Tiruonam day.
Keralites were also seen visiting temples to offer prayers to the Almighty to shower peace and prosperity. Even the Kerala state tourism department has organized a week long Onam celebrations.
