Mangalore: 3 chariots starting from Barkur, Sullia and Kasargod all the way to Mangalore converged at Jyothi circle in the afternoon of Sunday Jan.5th, 2014 carry in the massage of Tulu language, state and culture dating back to over 26 centuries on the west coast, and proceeded along with thousands of waiting Tuluva people on Dr. Shivaram Karantha Road and via Hampankatta to the venue at the Nehru Maidan around 4 pm to be received by several hundreds of people there in bright sunshine.
The Tulunad Jatre otherwise non as Vijaya Rajatha Sambrama praising the glory of an ancient civilization and one of the best cultures in India began with the prayer song and music. On the dais were seated several Swamijis, ministers MPs, MLAs, MLCs and social leaders of Tulunad that starches from Barkur to Kasargod even today.
The grand function was inaugurated by Pejavar Math seer Vishweshathirtha Swamiji and the Mahasabha was presided over by the convener of a Vishwa Tulu Sammelana earlier some years ago none other than the Duharmasthala Dharmadhikari. Dr. D Veerendra Heggade.
In his inaugural speech, after pouring water symbolically on a Kalpa Vriksha, a coconut tree the Pejavar seer affirmed is love for Tulu Language and culture besides a long history of kings there administration, commerce, literature and traditions. He added that Tulu was a sweet language, spoken by over 15 lakhs of people, and should have been recognize in the Indian constitution like any other 30 recognized languages with literature worships of spirits and snakes since an ancient age. The Tuluvas ruled on the west coast for over 700 years and at Vijayanagara Empire for over 100 years. There was a sudden dark age after the collapse of Vijayanagara Rule and Tulu had to rise once again as a Dravidian language like Kannada from the fire. The Tuluvas are soft natured, humbled and attach to their land as agriculturist and horticulturist dependent on monsoon and Netravati river as their lifeline. The Tulu civilization and culture will continue to exist along with its temples of heroic gods, crops, Pad-thana and traditions. He wished well for all Tuluva people who attended the Jatra and those who were present at the conference.
Similar sentiments were expressed by speakers such as DK minister, B Ramanath Rai, MP Nalin Kumar Katil, Swami Gurudaevanandaji of Odiyoor Math and other learned orators on the occasion.
It was suggested to rename Mangalore Airport as Tulunad International Airport by Swami Gurudevanandaji.
Dr. D Veerendra Heggade in his presidential speech refer to Tulunad as a land of temples based on the principles of truth, Justice and Dharma (righteousness), and was balanced in speech and acts of the people who lived there.
On this memorable occasion, Sadhvi Mathanandamai, Sri Ramananda Swami, Sri Mohandas Swami, Sri Yogananda Swami, Sri Mahabala Swami, Sri Shashikanthamani Swami graced the event.
Minister Abhaychandra Jain, M N Rajendra Kumar of SCDCC Bank, MLAs J R Lobo and Shakuntala Shetty and Ajith Kumar Rai Maladi among others were present.
A memorandum with various demands was submitted to the chief minister through the district in-charge minister.
