Mangaluru: One person was hacked to death and another person was injured after bike-borne masked men attacked the duo with lethal weapons outside Mukkacheri Masjid near Ullal on Wednesday evening.

Police suspect that the attack was a result of personal rivalry. Victim has been identified as Zubair, 40, an electrician by profession and resident of Mukkacheri. Another injured has been identified as Elyas, 50, working at fish dock. He has received minor injuries and being treated at private hospital in

Police said that incident took place when Zubair and Elyas were speaking to each other after finishing their Namaz. Assailant who were in 3-4 numbers, masked and arrived in two-wheelers started to attack Zubair with lethal weapons. Elyas has injured his hand when he tried to stop the assault, police added. Soon after the attack, miscreants fled from the spot.
Zubair, who received severe injuries on head died on the way to hospital.
Soon after the incident, senior police official from Mangaluru City Police have rushed to spot. A case has been registered at Ullal police station and investigation is on.
