Puttur: A person killed and four others sustained critical injuries after the car in which they were travelling fell into a 20-feet deep ditch here on Tuesday, May 7.

The deceased has been identified as Sunil. He and the other occupants of the car are Bengaluru residents and were proceeding towards Kukke Subramanya from Dharmasthala when the accident occurred at Shiradi Market on Mangaluru-Bengaluru national highway.

Reportedly the driver lost control of the vehicle and slid into the ditch killing Sunil on the spot. The injured were shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru.

Meanwhile locals blamed the authorities for having dug out the ditch, inorder to construct a drain but stopping the work mid-way. They added that a biker too met with serious injuries after falling into the ditch recently.
