Karkala : Thieves entered the Santosh Jewellery in the town on the night of September 18 Wednesday and escaped with gold and silver articles worth Rs 17.75 lakh. This theft took place close on the heels of the burglary of another jewellery shop by sprinkling chilly powder on the eyes of the staff. In the earlier case however the police recovered the stolen valuables and arrested the culprits.
In this case, the thieves first broke open a nearby iron workshop and drilled a hole in the wall to enter the jewellery shop., Police found an abandoned gas c utter used to break the locker. Nearly 600 grams of gold and 1.5 kg of silver ornaments have been stolen.
Police are investigating the case.
