Mangalore: Ratnakar Shetty, treasurer of Udupi District Chess Association, inaugurated the Open Inter-District Independence Cup Chess Tournament in Mangalore on August 12, Sunday.

The tournament was organized by the South Kanara District Chess Association. Around 70 people, in the age group of 6 – 30, are taking part in this one-day tournament.

Dr. Jessy Maria D’Souza, president of the South Kanara District Chess Association, and Sudhakar Kochi of National Insurance Company were also present.
