Mangalore : The Shri Ramotsava committee in association with Bajarang Dal, and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) will celebrate its 10th successive year of ‘Sri Ramotsav’ at Nehru Maidan from April 11 – 13 said VHP honourary president M B Puranik.
Speaking at the press meet held at Nehru Maidan on April 9, Saturday he said that Vedamurthy Giridhar Bhat will install the idol of Shri Rama in the palace which is being constructed at the venue on April 11. A variety of cultural programmes and competitions will form the highlights of the event.
On April 12, the Vayu Punascharana ritual will be held at 9:00 a.m., followed by the Maha Pooja at 12:30 p.m. Shrivari Foundation of Bangalore will organize the Shrinivasa Kalyanotsava on April 13, as part of which a procession has been arranged, which will commence at Shri Venkataramana Temple at 3:30 p.m.
The “Ravana Dahana” will be held at 9:00 p.m., during which a 60ft statue of Ravana will be burned as symbolic of the destruction of evil. Mr. Kottari said that Bengali artisans have made the statue of Ravana.
The Mangalore-based dance group called “Ocean Kids” will present scenes from the Ramayana and the Dashavatara on April 11, the Shri Krishna Leele Kamsa Vadhe will be performed by Ganesha Yakshagana Study Centre and the Urwa Vishwa Hindu Parishad on April 12, and Tulunada Vaibhava will be presented by the artistes of Mulki Yuvavahini as directed by Chandrashekar Suvarna.
Benedictory speeches will be delivered by Shri Rajashekarananda Swamiji, Shri Narendranatha Yogishwareshwara Swamiji, and Shri Yogananda Saraswathi Swamiji on April 11, 12, and 13, respectively.
President Jithendra S. Kottari, General Secretary Gopalakrishna Kuttar, Preeth Shetty and Shivanand Mendon were present at the press conference.
