Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district police along with NDRF team rescued over 200 people from landslips and flash floods in Jodupala village in Kodagu district bordering Dakshina Kannada on Friday afternoon.
Three people were feared missing. The police found one body, said Sullia Circle Inspector of Police R. Satish Kumar. Mr. Kumar said it was being kept at Sullia Hospital.
As the floods ravaged the coffee estate and other inhabited areas, residents of Jodupala were caught by surprise. Soon, the police and NDRF team reached the spot and evacuated those stranded.
Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister U.T. Khader and Deputy Commissioner S. Sasikanth Senthil who were on their way back from Kukke Subrahmanya after visiting rain-hit areas, rushed to Jodupala to oversee rescue operations.
B.R. Ravikanthe Gowda, SP, said and volunteers too joined the operations. Evacuated people were being housed in food shelters opened at two schools near Sullia as well as in Jodupala.
