Mangalore : The Air Pollution Control Month programmes organized jointly by the DK District Administration, Transport Department and Lions club at the Lions Seva Mandir in Mangalore on November 3, Saturday, was inaugurated by MLA and former minister Krishna Palemar.
Speaking on the occasion, Palemar said public co-operation will go a long way in preventing and checking air pollution. Each and every individual has a responsibility in this regard, he added. He also urged public to co-operate in the effective implementation of the plastic ban.
Deputy Commissioner Dr NS Channappa Gowda presided over the function. Stickers spreading awareness on air pollution and a public service radio advertisement were released on the occasion.
In his address, Regional Transport Officer C Mallikarjuna pointed out how nearly 72 per cent of air pollution was caused by emission from vehicles.
President of Canara Bus Owners’ Association Rajavarma Ballal, Dr Kedige Aravind Rao, President of Lions Club, Mangalore.and Vice-president Nagaraj Sharma and others were present.
Amateur artistes presented a Yakshagana on the adverse consequences of air pollution.
